Terror from the Abyss

“Its maw cracked the sea, swallowing giants with no more mercy than a child crushing ants beneath the fingers. Once, it had walked upright, clothed and full of life. It wasn’t born of nature, but of man. In his pursuit of conquest, and belief that domination was the meaning, he had eroded everything that bonded him to others…
What remained was not a beast, but a consequence of his own decisions. Consuming all without questioning, destroying all without guilt, a warning of what we’re capable of becoming".

This entry was part of the monthly challenge at the Hellfire Sculpting Club. :fire: I wanted to give the topic a twist by answering the question: “what if the terror from the abyss was actually a human?”

I drew inspiration from a real event that happened in Las Palmas this May. During the same week, two dead whales were found near the coast (and yesterday, a sperm-whale in Tenerife, the neighboring island). Three large cetaceans in less than a month.

As someone who grew up near the sea, these events broke my heart. It really made me reflect on how poorly we treat our oceans and how we leave destruction wherever we go.

To capture that feeling, I wanted to be as visceral as possible with all the sculpting decisions I made. :writing_hand:

I hope you like it!
