Dino Cop

Dona_Shoot_MINIA

It’s not without emotion after 15 years of reading Zbrushcentral that I decided to publish my first post to share with you my latest project. Hope you like it.

The project began with the desire to create a badass heroine from an 80s police adventure series in the vein of K2000, Magnum, the Beverly Hills cop.

Pitch:
One night in Venice Beach, Commander Saintclair was wandering the beach after the tragic and mysterious deaths of his wife and daughter. He discovered a small dinosaur in a huge egg. He decided to adopt her and raise her as his own daughter. He named her Dona. Growing up, she becomes Special Agent Dino Cop: the best police officer on the entire West Coast of the United States.

Zbrush allowed me to model then sculpt most of the character as well as his props. For the skin detail, I first used reptile skin scans to create a bump map in Mari. I then used this map in Zbrush in a layer as a guide to sculpt each scale and thus have a displacement that coherently followed each volume of the character. Finally, using Mari’s bump map and Zbrush’s displacement, I was able to create in Mari for diffuse, specular and SSS maps.

For the props, I mainly use the Zmodeler to model them and the Zremersher tool.

The clothes were modeled in Marvelous Designer but I used Zbrush to project all the details onto the basemesh and add the details.
