I actually miss ZBrush navigation when I’m using Mudbox. Having to reach for the alt-key just to rotate actually annoys me when I’m sculpting. Plus, being a Modo user, I really like trackball rotation for getting to those hard to reach places on organic models.
Looking forward to seeing videos showing Z4 features. Will there be a full Z4 feature list posted somewhere?

If your in the hope like alot of us to get info from people from Siggraph, then its a waiting game, and being the last day of Siggraph for Zbrush is today, I doubt your see anything till Monday or over the week end, but who knows, mite be lucky?
i dont understand why such secret about it!!! before siggraph i understand but after that is stupid!
we are clients that will buy the product is perfectually normal that we need know all the freatures before buy it! no? because of that i dont pre-order it!!
Will the new Zbrush 4 on both Mac and Windows open both 3.2 and 3.5 ZTL files?
I am wondering If I am going to have to output everything into a safe obj format before installation, or if I can rest easy in knowing my files are fine as they are.
I was also wondering that. If memory serves me right, you couldn’t open ZB2 tools in 3.x.
Yea you could open zb2 files in zb3, I ended up doing that with a few ztl files when zb3 came out.
I don’t think there’s ever been a case where a ZTL from an older version could not be opened in a newer version. Even with the major changes in ZBrush 3.5 (per-SubTool textures and the ZSpheres II feature), it was still able to open ZTL’s from 3.2 and before.
Also, ZBrush 4 will be a stand-alone version with a new serial number. You won’t overwrite your last version, and won’t have to uninstall it in order to run ZBrush 4. So you can keep the older version around for a while, just in case of the off chance where you run across a file that needs to be transferred via OBJ. The previous version won’t be supported anymore, but it won’t hurt anything for it to still be there.
So uh, aurick, I’m about to get a new computer and I want to have it here by the time zbrush 4 comes out. Any chance you would tell me the system specs I need to order? hmmMMMM? Just the ram limitation…that’s all I need
You’ll need to wait for an official announcement on 64bit support, mods don’t/can’t answer questions like that.
Just get 8gb of ram and you’ll be set, If ZB4 is 32bit only you’ll still want more then 4gb so you can max it out while windows/osx and your background programs eat a part of it. Theirs really no reason to go for less then 8gb these days anyhow, even 16gb is starting to slowly become common among people that run these kids of apps.
I will say it again, but there have been a couple of people that is at siggraph who mentioned that zbrush 4 will still only be a 32 bit app. But as PolyHertz says, get a machine with atleast 8gb of Ram.
It’s a simple function of the way ZBRUSH works and the vast amount of polys it can handle that more RAM will always be better. If you’re buying a new machine and you do any kind of high end graphic or 3D work, you wouldn’t want less than 4G just to run Photoshop properly without having to shut down every other app, but 8G must surely be what 3D artists want as a minimum, with 16 being a nice option, you wont ever see your machine suffer from too much RAM (unless the system can’t handle it), and remember, if you’re getting something like an iMac, where extra RAM costs a bucket o’ cash, you can opt for less, like the 4G that comes standard and add more yourself for a fraction of what Apple etc charges. My Mum just put more RAM in her computer, if she can do it I’m sure you can!
Yes if you work like I do, your need at least 8gb, actualy I need more at times. I often am jumping between Zbrush, Modo, and Photoshop, I leave them all open at the same time.
Another thing that speeds things up is getting a SSD, they are expensive, but are so fast, Hard drives are often the bottle neck in any system. I choose to build my own PCs , and if Zbrush 4 is 64bit, il be getting more ram to have 12-16gb.

I pray that in zbrush 4 will include Ptex3D
No more tedious uv mapping _ Mudbox and other software are implementing this, i hope Zbrush will follow

Yeah, I’m super happy for the Modo support as well. I used to be a hard core Maya user for over 10 years, and made the switch to Modo within a week of the trial download. It really is great.
Zbrush and Modo are a modeling match made in heaven.
